Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Dadasaheb Phalke is known as the Father of Indian Cinema. The highest National Film Award is named after him in 1969.

This award is given to a film personality for his/her outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award comprises of a swarna kamal, a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000 a a shawl.

Dhundiraj Govind (Dadasaheb) Phalke’s silent feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913) was first Indigenous feature film of India.

Ardeshir Irani in 1931, released first full lengh talkies film Alam Ara.

Mrs Devika Rani Roerich was the first person to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969.
